A rare wheellock tufenk
Ottoman Empire, 18th Century, 133.5 cm.
Round iron barrel with fore and backsight 19 mm cal.; historical interesting wheellock marked "KZ" and engraved with the Austrian double headed eagle under crown, the cock cutted and engraved with fishes and a bird, engraved in the inside, too; wooden full stock with butt in typical faced form, floral engraved brass mounts; ball-trigger, wooden horn-tipped ramrod.
While the wheellock was common in Europe, it was never mass-produced in the region of the Ottoman Empire. There are only four Ottoman guns with this system known. The lock shows the Austrian crowned double headed eagle is very likely that it comes from the famous battle of Vienna (1683), where it has been taken as a trophy and installed in this tufenk.

A rare wheellock carbine
Ottoman, ca. 1650. Octagonal, then round damascus barrel with eight groove rifling in 17 mm calibre, silver front sight, the silver-inlaid maker's mark, arabesques and an Ottoman warrior with a shield at the breech. European wheellock with floral engraving on the brass wheel-cover. Walnut fullstock with mother-of-pearl decoration (two inlays missing), a silver butt-plate and decorative barrel bands. Iron trigger guard. Original wooden ramrod with iron tip. Length 116 cm.

A RARE OTTOMAN MOTHER-OF-PEARL, GOLD AND SILVER-INLAID WHEEL-LOCK RIFLE, TURKEY, CIRCA 1650
the tapering circular watered-steel barrel, octagonal at the breech, with inlaid silver and gold decoration depicting a human figure amongst pointed trefoils and arabesques, the forestock with mother-of-pearl-inlaid cartouches and undulating triangles, the underside of the stock and butt inlaid with mother-of-pearl crescents and diamond shapes, the wheel-lock with finely carved stylised vegetal motifs, with fine wooden ramrod 116cm.
A comparable Ottoman wheel-lock rifle dated 1640-50 with almost identical decorative elements was exhibited at Acte-Expo in Paris in May-July 1988 and published in H. Ricketts and P. Missilier, Splendeur des Armes Orientales, Paris, 1988, pp.31-2, no.26.
